Martha Colburn, Carmina Escobar, Thollem Electric
FRIDAY, July 19 at 8pm

Presenting in different configurations, this trio brings an extraordinarily wide array of techniques and experiences to this evening of sonic film.

Carmina Escobar is an experimental vocalist, performer, improviser, sound and intermedia artist from Mexico City. My work focuses primarily on the voice, the body and their interrelations to physical, social and memory spaces. At the moment I live and breath in Los Angeles, CA. Tonight: INSATIABLE MONSTER, Coatlicue, Giving and Taking Life. for Pedals and Voice

Thollem’s Electric Confluence is exactly what you’d think Omni-Idiomatic music influenced by Ethiopia, Japan, China, Persia, Latin America, Ireland, Indonesia, Vietnam, Russia, The Balkans, Jazz, Blues, Punk, Country and the Avant Garde might sound like played on a synthesizer by “an intense and virtuosic keyboardist.” (Time Out, New York) Tonight: Omni-Idiomatic Synth-esis

Martha Colburn is an animator and artist living between Pasadena and Amsterdam. Her films have screened at Sundance Film festival and several museums and venues. She mixes found footage, animation and live action in her most recent work – collaborating with opera directors and composers. Tonight: Thollem and Carmina will be creating the live musical score to Martha’s films.
