Boom: A Journal of California a quarterly published by UC Press, aims to host one of the smartest, liveliest dinner party conversations in California every season, in the magazine, online, in social media, in other media, and in events. The voices of Boom are the voices we hear when scholars, journalists, writers, artists, thinkers and doers loosen up after hours while remaining as sharp as ever and inspiring each other to higher levels. This is the sound of scholars speaking plainly among intelligent friends outside the academy, journalists rising above what usually gets into print, and writers and artists inspiring them to connect creatively.

Heyday is an independent, nonprofit publisher and unique cultural institution. We promote widespread awareness and celebration of California’s many cultures, landscapes, and boundary-breaking ideas. Through our well-crafted books, public events, and innovative outreach programs we are building a vibrant community of readers, writers, and thinkers.
